OCTET

Music, lyrics, & book by Dave Malloy

November 20-December 20, 2026
Live Oak Theater, 1501 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley

Wednesdays/Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
Fridays/Saturdays at 8:00 p.m.
Sundays at 2:00 p.m.

Inspired by internet comment boards, scientific debates, religious texts, and Sufi poetry, Octet explores addiction and nihilism in the messy context of 21st-century technology. In a church basement, eight internet addicts lock their phones in a box and have a support meeting. Their confessions and attempts at connection reveal the often mundane, sometimes profound, and always overwhelming ways that contemporary technology has shaped our existence – set against the haunting, analog sound of eight voices in harmony.

Content advisory: Octet contains profanity and discussions of self-harm, mental illness, and pornography.
